Keys
to overcoming a weight loss
plateau
Eventually everyone person that diets hits a weight loss
plateau. It’s completely normal and not your fault.
Unfortunately it can be very frustrating especially since it
typically occurs just before you reach your weight loss goal.
There are 3 simple keys to overcoming a weight loss
plateau.
First you need to understand
why you have hit your weight loss plateau. If you have followed your
program, it is simply due to your body adapting to the new diet
and exercise routine. The human body has an
incredible ability to adapt to insure we
survive.
Your body is attempting to horde the calories to ensure
survival.
Now that you understand why your weight loss has stopped,
I will explain two important changes to your
program.
Throw your body a curve ball by
changing your exercise
program. If
you run 2 miles each day, start cycling or swimming for a
similar length of time. Another powerful way to break
through is increasing the time or intensity of your
workout. It is
easy to become complacent about your workout. Increase your workouts so you
push yourself as much as you did when you first started working
out. The extra
work is well worth the reward.
In addition to changing your workout, change
your diet. This
doesn’t mean reducing the calories. Simple changes like moving to
several small meals will speed up your metabolism and help you
break through your plateau.
You should also consider
changing your primary sources of nutrients if it is
significantly weighted to one food. For example, if you eat a
diet high in chicken try to mix in fish as a change to help
break your metabolic stalemate.
Another diet trick is to
increase your daily intake of water. Water has zero calories and
is great filler.
Drinking 12 oz of water before each meal helps fill up the
stomach and lessens the hunger signal to the
brain.
Weight loss is never
simple. But now
you understand the why and how to help overcome your weight
loss plateau. You
are not alone.
This happens to most dieters. The necessary changes to your
diet and exercise program are small. If you keep these keys in
mind you will obtain your ultimate goal
weight.
